Special Interest Conventions

Special interests conventions are extremely popular all over the world especially in the West. There are thousands of different types of conventions going on all year long related on all sorts of topics like gaming, horror, fantasy, online conventions, educational conventions, Star Trek conventions etc. It has now become a trend that at least every weekend of the year there is one convention taking place anywhere in the world. Some conventions are held over a single day while others are arranged over three or even four days. Such long duration conventions are mostly held during the holiday season.

Conventions for the fans

At such conventions, depending on the specific field of interest, fans swarm over in large number to get together with the writers, professional filmmakers, and other people who are involved with the topic of the convention in any way. Most of these crazy conventions are related to some movie, comic book series, television series, anime, actor or any random science fiction topic that has been receiving a lot of hype. Whatever the convention is about, all the professionals related to that genre, get together to meet the fans. Most of the times, these conventions have certain activities arranged as well for their fans to engage in to have fun while they’re there.

Most of these special interest conventions are organized by the fans themselves. Sometimes they are arranged on a non – profit basis while sometimes they are also arranged for profit as well. However, conventions often hold award ceremonies as well in which they honor the most recognized professionals. A perfect example here would be the famous Hugo Awards that are always held by The World Science Fiction Convention.
